About the Role

Apply, remove, and repair insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, hot and cold pipes, storage tanks and vessels, to help control noise and maintain temperatures. • Read and interpret blueprints, instructions, and documentation to plan work activities. • Determine required insulation material type and amount based on heat retention, location, surface, shape, and equipment use. • Transport materials and equipment to work locations and set up the work site. • Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces and access holes using plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement, or asphalt mastic. • Fit insulation around obstructions and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as needed. • Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws to protect insulation from weather and damage. • Measure and cut insulation for surfaces using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors. • Prepare surfaces for insulation by applying adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or attaching metal pins. • Secure insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape using staple gun, trowel, paintbrush, or caulking gun. • Follow all hazardous waste handling guidelines. • Remove or seal old asbestos insulation following safety procedures. • Complete records, maintain tools and equipment, and perform clean‑up and housekeeping tasks. • Observe and comply with safety and project rules, wearing required personal protective equipment, and perform other duties as required. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Compare and distinguish differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
