About the Role

Key responsibilities include performing infrared analysis of fixed-wing, rotary-wing, missile, and marine craft propulsion systems, delivering results in design reviews, and conducting IR testing with camera hardware in both ground and flight settings. The specialist will design low-observable IR exhaust systems, apply systems-engineering principles to whole-engine fluid flows, and collaborate with thermofluids, performance, controls, turbines, compressors, combustion, and power transmission teams. Additionally, the role involves defining technical work packages, mentoring junior engineers, and advancing analysis methodologies. • Perform infrared signature analysis of aircraft and propulsion exhaust systems. • Conduct IR testing using camera hardware in ground and flight environments. • Design low-observable IR exhaust systems and apply systems engineering concepts. • Collaborate with thermofluids, performance, controls, turbines, compressors, combustion, and power transmission teams. • Define and execute technical work packages while mentoring junior engineers. • Develop software solutions using FORTRAN, Visual Basic, or C++. • Implement workflow automation for preliminary and component design processes. • Maintain eligibility for U.S. security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics (or a Master’s/PhD) and possess at least two years of experience in IR signature design, thermodynamics, gas dynamics, fluid mechanics, or engine design. Proficiency in programming languages such as FORTRAN, Visual Basic, or C++ is required, and applicants must be U.S. citizens able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Preferred experience includes infrared analysis of aircraft exhaust hot parts and plumes, survivability assessments, gas-turbine exhaust analysis, heat-transfer modeling, and design of secondary-air, oil, fuel, or thermal-management systems. Familiarity with thermofluid analysis tools (SPAN, SC03, AMESim, Simscape, Fluent, STAR-CCM+, NPSS) and workflow-automation platforms for system and component design is also valued. • Utilize thermofluid analysis tools such as SPAN, AMESim, Fluent, STAR-CCM+, and NPSS.
