About the Role

The engineer will create overall layouts, equipment arrangements, 2‑D plan views, P&IDs and isometrics to support new projects. Daily work involves high‑level client interaction and coordination with Project Systems Business engineers, sales managers, product R&D, project management and custom engineering teams in Friedrichshafen and Mankato. • Develop block, single‑line, ladder, IO, logic, network diagrams, cable schedules, 2‑D/3‑D layouts and P&IDs meeting client objectives. • Act as design expert supporting lead engineers and sales managers on new opportunities. • Own and maintain the North American CAD knowledge base for gas‑fueled, microgrid and BESS projects. • Create wiring interconnection designs linking MTU hardware (ECUs, control panels, PLCs) with plant systems such as switchgear, relays and power distribution. • Establish pen tables, plot styles and CAD standards to improve design review efficiency. • Manage block libraries with editable attributes for standardized drawing creation. • Advise on optimal design strategies for special customer applications and recommend design modifications. • Edit and update existing RR/MTU CAD designs as required. • Promote compliance with Rolls‑Royce Code of Conduct and safety culture.

Rolls‑Royce is an equal‑opportunity employer committed to a respectful, supportive workplace. • Follow standard engineering principles, ERP quality procedures and HSE work instructions. • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. • Bachelor’s degree in CAD, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; 3 years (or 7 years) design/engineering experience. • Proficient with CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, BricsCAD, Creo or SOLIDWORKS. • Strong knowledge of electrical power systems using gas and diesel gensets for continuous, standby and mission‑critical applications. • Demonstrated project management, organization, planning and follow‑up abilities. • Excellent oral and written communication; entrepreneurial mindset. • Familiar with standard electrical/mechanical symbols and NEC (NFPA 70) code. • Ability to translate concepts into formal designs and interpret schematics, ladder and point‑to‑point diagrams. • Capable of independent work and effective collaboration across cultures and client types. • Willingness to travel up to 20 % for business trips. • Proficient in MS Office 365, ERP systems (SAP or JDE) and Bluebeam Revu. • Experience in service, testing, commissioning, machining or fabrication preferred. • Knowledge of NFPA 37, 54, 70, 70B, 70E, 99, 110, ASHRAE, ASME, ASCE 7‑22; PTC Windchill; OSHA 10/30 certifications.
