Lead Drafter
Designs and maintains 2D/3D wiring harnesses with EPLAN for engineering and production.
Job Highlights
About the Role
The Electrical CAD Lead Drafter/Designer creates, develops, and maintains 2D/3D wiring harness designs using EPLAN and related tools. The role supports engineering, manufacturing, and product development by delivering accurate harness models, routing information, component layouts, BOMs, schematics, and production documentation. It ensures schematics and component allocations meet technical specifications, manufacturing requirements, standards compliance, and project timelines. Key duties include developing detailed 2D and 3D wiring harness models, maintaining wiring diagrams, routing and component layouts, and generating or updating component libraries such as connectors, terminals, wires, and protective coverings. Harness designs are derived from engineering input, electrical schematics, and mechanical constraints while adhering to established design standards. Production‑ready documentation—BOMs, wire lists, cut lists, assembly and routing drawings—is produced for manufacturing. The position collaborates closely with Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure robust design outputs and drives continuous improvement of design workflows and documentation standards. Additionally, the Lead Drafter oversees and mentors a team of drafters to maintain consistency and quality across all drawings. • Create and maintain 2D/3D wiring harness designs using EPLAN. • Produce accurate routing, component layouts, BOMs, schematics, and production documentation. • Generate and update component libraries, including connectors, terminals, wires, and protective coverings. • Design harnesses based on engineering input, electrical schematics, and mechanical constraints. • Ensure compliance with harness design standards and project timelines. • Deliver production‑ready documents such as wire lists, cut lists, assembly and routing drawings. • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and quality teams. • Lead and mentor a drafting team to ensure drawing consistency and quality. • Apply Six Sigma Green/Black Belt methods for continuous improvement. • Utilize automation/scripting (EPLAN macros, variant management) to streamline workflows.

What You Bring
Basic qualifications require a high school diploma, at least three years of drafting or manufacturing experience, and residency within a 50‑mile radius of the work location (active‑duty military candidates are exempt). An associate’s or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred, and no relocation assistance is offered. Preferred experience includes eight or more years in harness manufacturing or assembly, five or more years of EPLAN product proficiency, exposure to EPLAN automation or scripting, and Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification. Candidates should possess strong knowledge of harness components, familiarity with UL 50, UL 67, and UL 891 standards, and the ability to interpret technical documents, BOM/MRP/ERP systems, and product lifecycle management tools. Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Enovia, and Microsoft Office is also required. The role demands strong verbal and written communication, persuasive and analytical problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work effectively within team environments.
