Senior Tax Manager

About the Role
The Senior Tax Manager will join Hitachi’s Tax Department in Santa Clara, California, working in a hybrid schedule. Reporting to the Senior Tax Director, the role leads the preparation of the consolidated tax provision and oversees corporate tax compliance for a large multinational group. In this position, the manager will be responsible for preparing quarterly and annual tax provisions, reviewing federal, state, and local tax returns for both consolidated and individual entities, handling intercompany allocations and transfer‑pricing adjustments, and representing the company in tax audits and notices. The manager also mentors the tax team, develops best‑practice processes, and supports various tax‑related projects. Employees are encouraged to bring imaginative ideas, work on cutting‑edge sustainability projects, and contribute to smart‑city and energy solutions worldwide, with support for continuous learning and exploration of new horizons. • Compile and calculate quarterly and yearly consolidated tax provisions, covering current, deferred, uncertain tax positions and valuation allowance assessments. • Generate true‑up calculations for tax shared‑service entities. • Draft and audit federal, state, and local income tax workpapers, returns, estimates and extension filings for both consolidated groups and separate entities. • Determine quarterly intercompany tax allocations and execute transfer‑pricing adjustments, supporting the Japanese parent’s local file documentation. • Produce pro‑forma federal and state tax returns for final intercompany allocation reporting. • Lead representation of Hitachi America during tax audit examinations and manage incoming tax notices. • Deliver technical coaching and training to tax staff on provision preparation and compliance procedures. • Design and implement streamlined best‑practice workflows to boost tax department efficiency. • Conduct in‑depth tax research and advise on complex regulatory issues. • Assist the Senior Tax Director with assorted tax initiatives and project delivery.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting or taxation, with CPA certification and a master’s in taxation preferred, and possess extensive experience in multinational corporate tax compliance and financial reporting. Experience that blends Big 4 public‑accounting work with large multinational corporate tax environments is ideal, along with strong knowledge of recent tax legislation and proficiency in Thomson Reuters OneSource and Excel. • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or taxation; CPA credential and a Master’s in Taxation are preferred. • Substantial corporate tax experience within multinational consolidated reporting and compliance frameworks. • Background that includes both Big 4 public‑accounting service and senior roles in large multinational tax departments. • Advanced proficiency with Thomson Reuters OneSource and expert‑level Excel capabilities. • Current expertise on tax law updates such as the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, CARES Act, and Inflation Reduction Act. • Strong analytical mindset and meticulous attention to detail for interpreting sophisticated tax regulations. • Effective communication skills for translating technical tax concepts to non‑tax audiences. • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple projects, meet aggressive deadlines, and provide leadership to a team.
