About the Role

The CAD/Revit Drafter supports a federal BIM program by producing accurate 2D and 3D drawings, integrating design changes, and preparing construction documentation using AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit. This role directly contributes to the creation and maintenance of Master Record Drawings and participates in modeling projects, drawing conversions, and quality assurance processes. Key duties include drafting and revising AutoCAD drawings and Revit models based on engineer and project manager inputs, converting legacy CAD files to Revit, developing Revit families, and incorporating point‑cloud data for reality‑capture projects. The drafter also documents equipment locations, attaches project metadata, and ensures compliance with BIM Execution Plans and industry standards. • Draft and revise 2D AutoCAD drawings and 3D Revit models from sketches, redlines, and markups. • Convert legacy CAD or MicroStation files to Revit, adhering to modeling and metadata standards. • Develop and maintain Revit families and drawing blocks for project consistency. • Incorporate point‑cloud data into Revit for reality‑capture integrations. • Document equipment locations, room designations, and life‑safety elements per facility standards. • Attach project attributes and metadata to model elements to support data integration. • Ensure drawing standards align with the BIM Execution Plan and industry CAD standards. • Perform quality‑control checks and correct drafting errors or compliance issues. • Coordinate with team members and government stakeholders to deliver accurate, usable deliverables.

The position is on‑site at a government agency in the National Capital Region, with a full‑time schedule of Monday‑Friday, 0730‑1630, and requires U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a federal background investigation. NV5, a national engineering and consulting firm, delivers services across six business verticals and aims to improve communities through engineering, architecture, construction, and environmental solutions. Candidates must have at least three years of professional CAD/Revit drafting experience in architectural, engineering, or construction settings, be proficient in both AutoCAD and Revit, and be able to read construction drawings and facility floor plans. Familiarity with BIM practices, strong attention to detail, and an associate degree or technical diploma in drafting or engineering technology are preferred. • Minimum 3 + years professional CAD/Revit drafting experience in architecture, engineering, or construction. • Proficient in AutoCAD 2D drafting, layering, annotation, and Revit 3D modeling, plan generation, and family development. • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and facility floor plans. • Familiarity with BIM practices and federal/institutional drafting standards. • Strong attention to detail and adherence to workflow and QC standards. • Associate degree or technical diploma in drafting, engineering technology, or related field (preferred).
