About the Role
The Bay Area Water Client Development Leader partners with Northern California Water Business Group management to strategically develop business opportunities for drinking water, wastewater and water‑resources projects across the San Francisco Bay Area. The role focuses on expanding existing client relationships, cultivating new ones, building market networks, positioning HDR for project pursuits and leading technical teams through proposal and interview processes. • Co‑create annual growth strategies with leadership to achieve financial goals and expand regional footprint. • Identify and engage key decision‑makers in public and private sectors, serving as HDR’s face in the Bay Area. • Partner with technical and market leaders to craft winning proposals and strategies. • Use HDR’s business tools to track progress, analyze market trends and inform decisions. • Collaborate with marketing to develop compelling storytelling materials that showcase expertise. • Act as trusted advisor and project principal to ensure client satisfaction and long‑term partnerships. • Mentor emerging professionals and inspire the next generation of leaders. • Represent HDR at industry events, panels and speaking opportunities to build personal and company brand.

What You Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; professional registration or equivalent experience. • Proven water‑consulting business development success and existing local client network. • Experience leading and managing diverse teams. • Willingness to travel, including overnight trips. • Minimum 15 years of relevant industry experience. • Self‑starter with a track record of delivering projects with limited oversight. • Deep knowledge of A/E/C procurement processes. • Ability to motivate, inspire and build networks of clients and partners. • Strong sales, win‑strategy development, financial acumen and negotiation skills. • Excellent written and verbal communication; proficient in Microsoft Office suite. • Strong travel ability and skill in creating compelling technical content. • Experience growing programs in competitive markets and winning high‑value contracts.
