About the Role
Light Equipment Operators are responsible for operating a variety of construction equipment—including bobcats, bulldozers, excavators, front‑end loaders, backhoes, rollers, and graders—to move earth with precision. They must conduct equipment inspections, adhere to safety protocols, and may assist with minor repairs. Operators are also expected to support other trades during downtime by performing non‑operating tasks. Core duties include operating the machinery to move earth, inspecting equipment before and after use, and ensuring all safety aspects are addressed. Operators may follow directions from a signaler and must evaluate the work area for hazards and plan equipment operations accordingly. • Operate bobcats, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, rollers, and graders to move earth. • Perform pre‑ and post‑operation equipment inspections and complete related paperwork. • Follow all safety regulations and signal directions during equipment operation. • Assess work areas for hazards and plan equipment usage accordingly. • Apply basic mechanical skills for minor repairs and maintenance.

What You Bring
Candidates must have at least two years of experience operating dirt equipment and possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below. A valid driver’s license, a clean motor‑vehicle record, reliable transportation, and the necessary tools are also required. Applicants should be familiar with various soil types, excavation specifications, and basic mechanical maintenance. They must be able to follow instructions accurately, complete administrative tasks such as inspection paperwork, and consistently observe safety regulations. Punctuality and the ability to work scheduled hours, including overtime with proper notice, are essential. Preferred candidates are current or former Zachry employees and hold a valid driver’s license. This position does not have any direct reports. The role requires prolonged periods of sitting, verbal communication, and the use of arms and hands for signaling, grabbing, and operating controls. Employees must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lb, pass a visual acuity test, and have good dexterity. Personal protective equipment—including hard hat, safety glasses or goggles, ear protection, respirator, safety vest, gloves, and leather boots—must be worn at all times. Required tools include a raincoat and rain boots. No specific certifications or licenses are required, although forklift experience is mandatory. • Minimum two years of dirt equipment operating experience. • Hold a valid driver’s license and meet motor‑vehicle record standards. • Provide reliable transportation and possess required tools. • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lb and work scheduled shifts with overtime as needed. • Must have forklift experience and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, etc.).
