About the Role
The Estimator prepares time, cost, and labor estimates for assigned projects, applying specialized methodologies, techniques, and processes. The role also involves following up with clients to overcome obstacles, securing contract awards, and providing ongoing cost‑estimate support to operations for awarded contracts. • Identify and quantify construction elements. • Enter quantities into pricing software. • Provide initial data for Commence software entry. • Supply specifications to Contracts Department to determine insurance requirements. • Submit new contracts for corporate review. • Build relationships with vendors/suppliers to assess capabilities for projects. • Analyze and scope vendors/suppliers to determine best value and continuity. • Persuade vendors/suppliers to commit to optimal pricing. • Assemble quantities in pricing format per bid requirements. • Create baseline job duration. • Determine special equipment needs for specific jobs. • Apply best‑value vendors/subcontractors to the estimate. • Prepare bid forms, proposal letters, and qualifications for target owners. • Research construction history to enhance productivity, value engineering, and constructability. • Include standard conditions in every proposal. • Incorporate proposal language for 50% cost reduction at half completion and final retentions after 60 days. • Package and send proposals on time, coordinating with Operations for productivity and manpower. • Follow up personally with clients to confirm bid receipt and address obstacles. • Develop and maintain client relationships for current and future jobs. • Collect data on lost jobs to monitor competition and market trends. • Provide marketing with updated information after bids. • Track projects through award status. • Notify Chief Estimator/Estimating Manager upon award. • Coordinate transition meeting for the Project Manager. • Prepare rough schedule covering job duration, cash flow, and man‑hour requirements. • Schedule meetings for the Project Manager and invitees. • Communicate understanding of lower‑qualified vendors/subs and commitments to subcontractors and general contractors. • Relay general contractor/owner schedule and needs to field supervision. • Review potential operational alternatives. • Assist project team in obtaining approvals within 60 days of submittals. • Read, analyze, and interpret business documents, technical procedures, and regulations. • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. • Apply mathematical concepts, including probability, statistical inference, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. • Interface confidently with clients and co‑workers. • Define problems, gather information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. • Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. • Incorporate safety and OSHA requirements into estimates.

What You Bring
A bachelor’s degree in construction management, accounting or a related field and at least three years of relevant experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office and estimating software such as Timberline, UScost, or WinEst. The successful candidate can read, analyze, and interpret business documents, technical procedures, and regulations, and write clear reports and correspondence. Strong presentation, listening, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills are essential, as well as the ability to interface with clients, factor safety and OSHA requirements into estimates, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in construction management, accounting or related field plus at least three years’ experience, or an equivalent education/experience mix. • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. • Proficient in estimating software such as Timberline, UScost, or WinEst. • Present information effectively and respond to stakeholder questions. • Demonstrate good listening skills.
