About the Role
Join Downer Professional Services to contribute to complex defence and national security initiatives that protect Australia's future. The role is based in Canberra and focuses on supporting the Commonwealth‑wide Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) projects. The Export Control Officer will work closely with government and industry partners to manage export‑control procedures for advanced U.S. communications technology. Responsibilities include preparing required documentation, supporting audit activities, and helping refine the organisation’s export‑control management framework. • Enable Commonwealth and industry access to advanced U.S. military communications technology under export‑control rules. • Secure export‑control approvals and verify compliance for Defence projects. • Prepare export‑control documents, including Third‑Party Retransfers and Technical Assistance Agreements. • Assist with audit processes and maintain records of export‑control agreements. • Support the Export Control Manager in enhancing the export‑control management framework. • Interpret and apply defence legislation and policy within project environments. • Communicate and engage with stakeholders across internal teams and external organisations. • Manage project documentation such as plans, instructions, registers and records. • Participate in meaningful Defence projects that protect Australia’s future.

What You Bring
Successful candidates must be able to interpret defence legislation and policy, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and manage project documentation with minimal supervision. A strong understanding of U.S. export controls (ITAR, FMS, DCS) and a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance are required, alongside a proactive work ethic. • Demonstrate initiative and work independently to deliver outcomes with limited supervision. • Apply knowledge of U.S. export controls, ITAR, FMS and DCS processes where relevant. • Hold and maintain at least Negative Vetting 1 security clearance; comply with ITAR where required. • Access career development tools, accelerated learning programs and community‑of‑practice networks.
