Key responsibilities include developing and implementing scientific studies, leading biological surveys, planning natural resources, coordinating staff, managing projects, and contributing to business development. The role also involves staff mentorship, technical review of reports, and ensuring team safety through safety plans and hazard anticipation. • Develop and implement scientific studies and natural resource plans. • Lead and coordinate biological survey efforts. • Serve as project manager or technical lead on resource projects. • Utilize GIS, topographic maps, GPS, and aerial imagery to locate habitats. • Identify and pursue new business opportunities. • Collaborate with SWCA scientists, planners, and cultural resource teams. • Create safety plans and proactively manage field‑team hazards. • Mentor staff and conduct technical review of reports.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science or a related field (master’s preferred) and have at least three years of progressively responsible experience in biological surveys and resource management. Required skills include strong wildlife or plant identification, familiarity with the Endangered Species Act, technical report writing, subcontractor management, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field; master’s preferred. • Minimum three years of progressive experience in biological surveys and resource management. • Strong wildlife/plant identification skills and knowledge of the Endangered Species Act. • Proven ability to write technical reports, manage subcontractors, and promote services.

The position is temporary and hourly, with three possible titles based on experience: Assistant Project Biologist (up to 3 years), Associate Project Biologist (up to 5 years), and Project Biologist (up to 7 years). Pay rates are competitive and range from $30.71 to $49.73 per hour, depending on level, qualifications, and location.
