About the Role

The Area Manager I, Fleet (Post‑Collections) oversees maintenance, reliability, and lifecycle management of yellow‑iron and heavy‑equipment assets across transfer stations, material recovery facilities, landfills, and organics sites. The role ensures equipment availability, operational continuity, and regulatory compliance while driving cost discipline, technician development, and safety performance. In this capacity, the manager drives post‑collection profitability by supervising heavy‑equipment maintenance, controlling costs, and managing technician performance. They also ensure safe, reliable operation of dozers, loaders, and related equipment to support daily throughput, material movement, environmental compliance, and production goals. The manager maintains adequately staffed maintenance shops with technicians skilled in hydraulics, electrical systems, undercarriage, and diagnostics. They leverage equipment management systems, telematics, and preventive‑maintenance tools to reduce downtime, enable predictive maintenance, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Championing WM’s Mission to Zero, the manager enforces safe equipment operating procedures, conducts safety audits, and mitigates hazards. They lead, mentor, and develop Post‑Collections Fleet Managers, fostering a collaborative culture, cross‑site problem solving, and consistent maintenance practices. Financial responsibilities include meeting all review dates, reporting deadlines, and corporate program requirements. The manager supports the annual budgeting process, forecasts maintenance costs, evaluates capital needs, and identifies cost‑reduction opportunities while submitting accurate performance and safety reports. • Direct post‑collection fleet maintenance to maximize equipment uptime and control costs. • Manage deployment of yellow‑iron equipment to meet site throughput and environmental targets. • Ensure shops are staffed with technicians skilled in hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics. • Utilize telematics and preventive‑maintenance software to reduce downtime and ensure compliance. • Enforce WM’s Mission to Zero safety standards through audits and hazard mitigation. • Lead and develop fleet managers and technicians, fostering cross‑site collaboration. • Oversee budgeting, cost forecasting, and timely reporting of performance metrics. • Maintain required driver’s license and meet physical demands of the role. • Travel up to 80 % to transfer stations, landfills, MRFs, and organics facilities.

What You Bring

Required qualifications are a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, five years of post‑collection heavy‑equipment maintenance experience, and five years of management experience, plus a valid driver’s license. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of yellow‑iron equipment, diagnostics, equipment management software, and strong leadership and communication skills. This remote role involves up to 80 % travel to sites throughout the Canada market and requires the ability to perform repetitive motions, coordinate eye/hand/foot actions, and engage in sitting, talking, and hearing tasks. The expected base salary in Ontario is $135,000–$145,000, with eligibility for bonus.
