About the Role
The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for repairing and maintaining a range of heavy, compact, and light service equipment, including trucks. Typical work includes preventative maintenance inspections and repairs of hydraulic, fuel, exhaust, brake, suspension, electrical, HVAC, and emission systems. Key tasks include reading equipment condition reports, communicating with supervisors or operators to clarify defects, completing paperwork and work orders, documenting parts usage, and recording consumables, fuel, and oil data for fleet management software. Technicians also collect oil sampling analyses and perform engine overhauls on gas or diesel engines. • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on heavy equipment using advanced knowledge • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on electrical, diesel, and gasoline vehicles such as compactors, excavators, and wheel loaders • Interpret equipment condition reports and communicate with supervisors or operators to clarify defects • Complete work orders, document parts usage, and track labor times accurately • Record daily consumables, fuel, and oil usage for fleet management software • Analyze oil samples and on‑board computer data to inform maintenance decisions • Follow all safety policies, including OSHA HazCom, Lockout/Tagout, and fire protection regulations • Perform engine overhauls on gas or diesel engines

What You Bring
The role requires advanced diagnostic knowledge to address mechanical problems on equipment such as compactors, excavators, and wheel loaders. Technicians work on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, body components, hydraulic, brake, electrical, and suspension systems, as well as wheels, tires, and undercarriages, while adhering to safety policies. Candidates must hold ASE certifications or equivalent training in air brakes, tires, hydraulics, advanced electrical, drivetrain, suspension, and steering components, and possess at least one year of heavy‑equipment experience. Additional qualifications include a mechanical trade school certificate or degree, electrical diagnostics certification, knowledge of Tier 4 emissions, welding/fabrication skills, and familiarity with OSHA HazCom, Lockout/Tagout, and fire protection regulations. • Service engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, hydraulic, brake, electrical, suspension, wheels, tires, and undercarriages • Hold ASE certification demonstrating expertise in air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrain, suspension, steering, and wheel‑end components • Minimum one year of hands‑on experience servicing heavy equipment • Mechanical trade school certificate or degree; certification in electrical diagnostics • Knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems and welding/fabrication skills • Proven ability to work safely under OSHA HazCom, LOTO, and fire protection standards
