About the Role

The Leadman provides leadership, instruction, and guidance to other craft workers in the work crew, assisting the Foreman while performing duties as a journeyman. The role involves laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and production and processing systems. • Select pipe type and size, and related materials/equipment such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders according to job specifications. • Inspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions. • Plan installation sequence to avoid obstructions and other workers' activities. • Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine. • Thread pipe using threading machine. • Bend pipe by hand or with pipe‑bending tools and machine. • Mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceiling to hold pipe. • Assemble and install metal or non‑metal pipes and fittings using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints and hand tools. • Secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers using hand and power tools. • Install and maintain refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and piping. • Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure and observing gauges. • Weld pipe supports to structural steel members. • Observe production machines to detect malfunctions and operate machinery to verify repair. • Load, transport, and unload material, tools, equipment, and supplies. • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing material and work pieces during installation. • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment. • Use respiratory protection as required. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Compare and see differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.

What You Bring

A high school diploma or equivalent and several years of relevant experience are required; the candidate must have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures, rely on instructions and pre‑established guidelines, and work under immediate supervision without exercising independent judgment, typically reporting to a supervisor or manager. Physical requirements include strength tasks such as standing, walking, lifting and carrying up to 50 lb, and pushing or pulling 70 ft‑lb, as well as activities like climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering, with frequency indicated by symbols.
