About the Role
The Principal Engineer will lead the engineering effort for new and ongoing substation projects, supporting multiple initiatives simultaneously and collaborating closely with NV5 Substation Engineering leadership. This remote‑eligible role within the United States involves working in small, multi‑discipline teams to deliver high‑quality deliverables and exceptional customer service. • Prepare conceptual designs, execution plans, and construction drawings for medium and high voltage substations. • Develop engineering cost estimates, schedules, and provide weekly progress updates to senior team leaders. • Conduct quality reviews and document calculations, studies, and reports in line with internal and client standards. • Coordinate small, multi‑discipline project teams (civil, structural, transmission line, etc.) to execute substation projects. • Ensure technical delivery of power delivery engineering tasks and adherence to engineering design principles. • Create one‑line, three‑line diagrams, panel layouts, schematics, and equipment specifications. • Interpret and apply IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client standards.

What You Bring
• Possess 8+ years of substation/power delivery experience, including high‑voltage design from 12 kV to 500 kV. • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication, analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills. • Experience with power system calculations, relay settings, and protection & controls design (must). • Hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field and an active PE license.
