About the Role

The Field Engineer is responsible for overseeing and executing project controls and management across multiple disciplines, providing direct support to the Craft Superintendent and handling tasks such as quantity collection, scheduling, contract administration, procurement, and reporting. This role requires frequent interaction with clients, engineering teams, subcontractors, vendors, and project management to keep the project on track. In this role the Field Engineer will act as the primary on‑site representative, ensuring quality plans are followed, safety programs are upheld, and all project documentation—including daily reports, RFIs, and submittals—is accurately maintained. The engineer also drives the planning process, manages cost forecasting, and supports the budgeting and cash‑flow functions of the project. • Represent the company professionally in all client interactions. • Provide required contract reports (weekly, monthly, schedule) to the client. • Follow corporate and site‑specific safety plans. • Perform quantity calculations and measure completed work. • Develop and review work plans and work packages. • Support site quality plan implementation and ensure timely inspections and documentation. • Manage compilation, processing, and customer approval of daily labor timesheets. • Compile and distribute weekly average labor rate to frontline supervision. • Train craft and staff on completing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs). • Participate in or lead jobsite safety reviews, toolbox and mass safety meetings, and training. • Order and schedule material deliveries; develop procurement status reports. • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite. • Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and contract documents. • Conduct basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations. • Assist engineers in gathering and preparing data for submittals to customers, vendors, subcontractors, agencies, and internal use. • Prepare field‑issued purchase orders, subcontracts, and material buyout takeoffs. • Direct home‑office procurement and subcontract administration functions. • Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations. • Manage project recordkeeping and correspondence (daily reports, photos, RFIs, submittals, memorandums, etc.). • Create and monitor project controls such as productivity tracking, equipment schedules, risk and opportunity logs. • Create and maintain the master project schedule. • Generate change orders and as‑built data for project manager review. • Drive planning process through master schedule and weekly manpower curves. • Assist the project manager with accounting, job cost, and work‑in‑progress updates. • Lead budgeting by converting estimates to standard phase codes. • Alert project manager and home office to cost trends in labor, material, subcontractors, and equipment. • Accurately forecast project costs (labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment). • Establish cash‑flow forecasts to ensure positive project cash flow. • Act as primary company representative in the project manager’s absence. • Develop and prepare schedule of values and invoices for the customer. • Support crews of up to 50 people as needed. • Lead 1–2 field engineers. • Oversee field office staff including engineers, office manager, document control, schedulers, procurement, warehouse, and support personnel. • Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors on‑site. • Set a personal example of safe behavior. • Maintain physical strength and stamina for demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lb and working at heights.

What You Bring

The position is travel‑intensive and can be based in any U.S. city, with up to 100% time spent on project sites across the country. Assignments typically last 8–18 months, with designated per diem, mobilization support, and a longer weekend every four weeks. Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field and have three to five years of field engineering experience, preferably in an industrial setting. Strong technical, analytical, and safety‑focused skills are required, along with the ability to work independently, travel extensively, and perform physically demanding tasks. The position is full‑time, typically requiring a 50‑hour work week and up to 90% travel, with the need to relocate for extended project durations. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lb, working at heights, and operating in varied weather and environmental conditions while wearing required personal protective equipment. • Understand provisions, terms, and scope of the prime contract. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field. • Possess 3–5 years of experience as a Field Engineer or similar role; industrial experience preferred. • Knowledge of MIC health and safety programs and project‑specific regulations. • Ability to read, analyze, and identify discrepancies in engineering plans, specifications, and contracts. • Ability to access all points of a construction site in varied climates and environments. • Strong work ethic and commitment to doing the job right the first time. • Team player who can work independently to meet deadlines. • Willingness to travel extensively and relocate for 6–12 month project durations.
