About the Role

The technician will generate CADD designs for substation layouts, foundations, structures, and equipment arrangements, and produce design deliverables such as reports, technical memoranda, manuals, plans, models, specifications, and material lists while adhering to industry quality standards. Working with minimal supervision, the role involves collecting and analyzing site data, using 3D CADD software to create precise drawings, assisting with technical design details, verifying calculations and change orders, and ensuring compliance with city, state, federal, and client/utility regulations. • Generate CADD designs for substation layout, foundations, structures, and equipment arrangements. • Produce design phase deliverables: reports, technical memoranda, manuals, plans, models, specifications, and material lists. • Collect, compile, and analyze site data, surveys, blueprints, and specifications to support drafting. • Use 3D CADD software to create precise drawings and resolve design discrepancies with engineers. • Provide technical design assistance applying GD&T, tolerance, and quantity calculations for constructability. • Verify calculations, change orders, and contract plans; raise errors or construction issues for resolution. • Ensure designs comply with city, state, federal regulations and client/utility design standards. • Prepare multiple design versions for engineer review and coordinate with cross‑functional teams. • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct, safety policies, and ethical use of company resources. • Complete assigned training and stay current with drafting and substation design practices.

What You Bring

Required qualifications include a high school diploma, at least five years of design or drafting experience in utility infrastructure, strong knowledge of drafting principles and relevant codes, solid communication and problem‑solving abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining safety standards. • Minimum 5 years of drafting/design support experience in substation, power delivery, or utility projects. • Familiarity with electrical and utility codes, regulations, and record‑keeping requirements. • Strong interpersonal, communication, and self‑leadership skills with keen attention to detail. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively within teams. • Proficiency in technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and basic math principles. • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem‑solving using data analysis and calculations. • Proven safety record and compliance with WSP health, safety, and harassment policies. • Flexibility to meet project‑specific schedules and occasional travel as required.
