About the Role
Within the Transport business unit, Mott MacDonald conceives, designs and implements transport solutions for cities, regions and asset owners worldwide, covering the full project lifecycle from business case development to operation and maintenance. The team contributes to the Global Transport Sector Strategy and provides expertise in planning, engineering, environmental and management disciplines. The role joins the technical advisory team to develop and expand the airfield and highway pavement portfolio, working from Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds or Sheffield offices. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams, apply digital platforms and ensure designs meet health, safety and quality standards set out in the Business Management System. The position offers the chance to influence high‑performance projects with both UK and international clients. Continuous professional development and knowledge sharing are integral parts of the role. • Deliver airfield pavement design to UK and international standards • Deliver highway pavement design to UK and international standards • Assess and prioritise pavement intervention works • Optimise maintenance and renewal schemes for clients • Conduct condition assessment and root‑cause analysis of pavement defects • Support technical teams in operation and maintenance considerations • Provide advice on carbon‑reduction strategies in pavement design and maintenance • Mentor team members and support their technical and professional development • Implement digital technologies to improve delivery efficiency and project outcomes • Assist in bid development to expand the project pipeline

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a civil engineering degree or equivalent, possess strong expertise in pavement design, materials and testing, and be able to obtain Security Clearance (SC). Essential competencies include high‑level written and verbal communication, meticulous attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a fast‑moving environment. Desirable experience covers airfield pavement projects, familiarity with standards such as DMG27, FAA and ICAO, and proficiency in software like FAARFIELD or CIRCLY. Progression towards Chartered Engineer status is encouraged.
