About the Role

The Designated Driver Trainer (DDT) is a dual‑role position that combines routine vehicle operation with the responsibility of training new and existing drivers. The DDT ensures safe, efficient route service while mentoring drivers to meet WM’s safety and regulatory standards. Key duties include operating a WM vehicle in compliance with safety, OSHA, DOT and all applicable laws, performing pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, and completing waste or recycling collection. The DDT also provides on‑the‑job training, coaching, and feedback on vehicle operation, defensive driving, and OBU tablet usage, while maintaining detailed progress records and reporting performance data to management. • Operate assigned WM vehicle safely and efficiently, adhering to all regulatory and company policies. • Conduct on‑the‑job training and coaching for new drivers and those reassigned to new routes. • Observe driver performance, provide immediate constructive feedback, and reinforce defensive driving skills. • Instruct drivers on WM Way processes and proper OBU tablet usage. • Maintain accurate training records, tracking strengths, improvement areas, and recommended coaching. • Report driver performance metrics to the Route Manager and Onboarding Optimization Manager. • Mentor drivers to build confidence and competence during role transitions. • Promote WM’s values and safety standards as a company ambassador.

What You Bring

Required qualifications are a high school diploma or GED, a Class A or B CDL with air‑brake endorsement, and at least two years of experience driving a WM vehicle. Preferred qualifications include two years of recent military driving experience and two years of experience supervising, training, or coaching personnel. • High school diploma or GED required. • Class A or B CDL with air‑brake endorsement and two years of WM vehicle operation experience. • Preferred: two years of recent military driving experience. • Preferred: two years of supervisory, training, or coaching experience.
