About the Role
In this role you will guide the strategic direction of the Mechanical Team for the Buildings Group, supporting Project Engineers to deliver technical excellence on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards. You will represent Stantec to clients, build and manage relationships, and reinforce cultural behaviours across the Mechanical Team and the New Zealand Buildings Group while balancing project delivery, business development, and section performance. • Develop designs with sketches, models, diagrams, and update documents such as site plans, layouts, profiles, and cross sections. • Perform various design tasks under guidance, including drawings, reports, presentations, and regulatory submissions. • Specify and engineer mechanical systems or products, ensuring technical accuracy. • Support senior staff in defining project scope, estimating costs, budgeting, staffing, and scheduling. • Assist with conceptual through final design preparation and join client meetings to clarify requirements. • Participate in permitting processes, including meetings with stakeholders and agencies. • Prepare portions of proposals, change orders, and project communications. • Coordinate technical work and designs across disciplines, acting as liaison between teams. • Conduct feasibility studies, analyze options, assess energy performance, and compile data. • Ensure compliance with regulations by reviewing legislation and advising on necessary actions. • Verify construction specification adherence, monitor progress, inspect sites, and confirm calculations. • Act as engineer of record for one's own and junior staff’s work.

What You Bring
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our high‑performing team, with experience across low‑rise to high‑rise building projects. Our portfolio spans data centres, health facilities, laboratories, industrial sites, education, and infrastructure. The successful candidate will possess consulting experience in building services, a strong knowledge of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant standards, a mechanical engineering degree with at least six years of professional experience, and the ability to cultivate strong client relationships while multitasking across projects and team responsibilities. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to professional development are essential; chartered status or Producer Statement Author qualifications are a plus. • Previous experience in a consulting environment within the building services industry. • Knowledge of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant Australian and New Zealand Standards. • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with at least six years of relevant professional experience. • Willingness to establish and maintain strong client relationships to generate repeat opportunities. • Ability to multitask between project involvement and section performance. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Working towards Chartered Professional Engineer status or Producer Statement Author (favourable but not essential).
