Job Highlights
About the Role
The Transmission Line Engineer supports major transmission projects across the SPS region, including new builds, rebuilds, and services for expanding customer needs. This role delivers transmission line design and project support while working closely with leadership and project partners, and participates in an on‑call rotation approximately every six weeks to assist with emergency response. The position is entry‑level but can be placed at a level commensurate with the candidate’s skills and experience. Designed to develop technical expertise, the entry‑level position involves work of limited scope that follows established procedures and precedents. Responsibilities may include leading small‑to‑medium non‑critical projects, providing field oversight of critical projects, and supervising interns, drafters, or technicians under the direction of higher‑level engineers. Work is reviewed for technical soundness, and as proficiency grows the engineer may take on portions of larger projects. • Apply technical standards, theories, and principles to limited‑scope engineering tasks. • Develop and maintain technical documentation such as designs, calculations, reports, and standards. • Provide ongoing technical support for operations, maintenance, testing, diagnostics, and regulatory activities. • Conduct field engineering oversight for commissioning, testing, and inspections under supervision. • Coordinate or lead project phases—including research, design, equipment selection, procurement, installation, and commissioning—under higher‑level guidance. • Perform basic analysis and calculations to support bid preparation and evaluation processes. • Communicate technical information effectively with internal teams, customers, and vendors. • Mentor and guide interns, drafters, technicians, and less‑experienced engineers. • Assist with project budgeting, estimating, forecasting, and work order management.
