Job Highlights
About the Role
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for developing new and modified HVAC equipment diagrams, creating prototype designs, and determining specifications for each component. This role collaborates closely with electrical and mechanical designers and engineers to ensure product designs integrate seamlessly across systems, and provides guidance to mechanical designers to release optimized designs. Key duties include establishing procedures for testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment, as well as testing and troubleshooting designs to verify proper function and safety. The engineer works with engineering and operations teams to implement engineering change notices, supports production during prototyping and initial production, coordinates part shortages and test fixture builds, and creates cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment. Additional responsibilities involve developing bills of materials, preparing product documentation, performing mechanical CAD modeling and simulations, and supporting DFMEA, PFMEA, CFD, FEA, and seismic evaluations. • Develop and modify equipment diagrams and prototype designs, specifying component requirements. • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical designers to ensure integrated product designs. • Provide design guidance and oversight to mechanical designers for optimized releases. • Establish procedures for testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment. • Test, troubleshoot, and verify product safety and functionality. • Implement engineering change notices and support production during prototyping and launch. • Create cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment; manage bills of materials and documentation. • Perform Mechanical CAD modeling, simulations, and support DFMEA, PFMEA, CFD, FEA, and seismic testing. • Stay current with design codes and regulations (UL, CE, NEC, IBC, NFPA). • Lead projects, make design recommendations, and mentor junior engineers.
