About the Role
In this role you will support the engineering, analysis, and design of high‑voltage overhead transmission lines under the guidance of experienced engineers, participating in project execution, field coordination, and technical development to ensure safe and reliable designs. It is ideal for early‑career professionals passionate about the electric utility industry. As an Early Career Overhead Transmission Line Engineer you will assist with technical design and analysis, including PLSCADD modeling, design calculations, drawing preparation, route evaluation, and QA/QC; support project coordination by preparing reports, permits, cost estimates, and participating in interdisciplinary reviews; and engage in professional growth through mentorship, training, and adherence to safety and ethical standards. • Assist with PLSCADD modeling for line layout, spotting, and structure analysis. • Prepare design calculations for structures, foundations, conductors, and line components. • Develop plan and profile drawings, loading trees, material lists, and construction packages. • Evaluate route constraints, clearances, terrain conditions, and reliability requirements. • Support QA/QC processes for drawings, calculations, and deliverables. • Prepare engineering reports, permit exhibits, and cost estimates. • Participate in internal design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination (civil, environmental, substation, geotech). • Conduct occasional field reviews or site visits to validate engineering designs. • Engage in career development tools, mentorship programs, and training on assigned tasks. • Uphold safety, integrity, and ethical decision‑making in line with WSP policies.

What You Bring
Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, structural, electrical engineering or a related discipline, 0‑1 year of post‑education experience, strong analytical and research skills, familiarity with design/build processes and relevant codes, excellent communication abilities, self‑leadership, proficiency with office software and design tools such as AutoCAD, legal authorization to work in the U.S., a solid safety record, flexibility for project‑specific schedules, and occasional travel. Preferred qualifications are an Engineer‑in‑Training certification, related internship experience, involvement in professional engineering organizations, coursework in structural analysis, foundations, soils, surveying or power systems, and familiarity with software such as PLSCADD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or MATHCAD. • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical Engineering or related field. • 0–1 year of relevant post‑education experience. • Strong analytical, research, and problem‑solving skills. • Familiarity with design/build processes and applicable codes, regulations, and compliance practices. • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences. • Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and design tools (AutoCAD, CAM). • Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaboratively in a fast‑paced consulting environment. • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification (preferred). • Relevant internship experience (preferred). • Active participation in professional engineering organizations (preferred). • Coursework in structural analysis, foundations, soils, surveying, or power systems (preferred). • Experience with PLSCADD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or MATHCAD (preferred).
