About the Role

• Install, align, and test main propulsion plant machinery and supporting systems • Overhaul, maintain, and install valves, pumps, turbines, and heat exchangers • Conduct lube oil flushing, hydrostatic testing, and system grooming per cleanliness standards • Interpret and work from complex technical drawings, blueprints, diagrams, and sketches • Install mechanical systems such as anchor windlasses, aircraft elevators, weapons elevators, and hydraulic components • Use precision instruments (e.g., micrometers, dial indicators) to achieve proper alignment and fit • Operate machine tools and portable equipment (e.g., lathes, boring bars, milling machines) to modify or fabricate parts as needed • Perform boiler operations, tube replacements, and steam system testing • Support installation of air conditioning, refrigeration, and distilling plant systems • Comply with OSHA and shipyard safety regulations and best practices • Ensure cleanliness and integrity of all systems throughout installation and commissioning phases

This first‑shift role offers $37.31 per hour plus a $140 per‑day per diem for travelers more than 60 miles from the site, and provides the chance to work with skilled craftsmen who prioritize safety, productivity, and superior craftsmanship. Candidates must have at least four years of commercial or naval experience as a First Class Machinist and be able to obtain a Department of Defense clearance.
