About the Role
Multidisciplinary teams of planners, engineers, architects, construction managers, environmental specialists, economists and consultants work together to solve complex mobility challenges with innovation and technical excellence. The Springfield Roadway Team Lead manages roadway design staff on Missouri DOT and local agency projects, cultivates client relationships, leads project pursuits, and oversees delivery from feasibility through construction. Responsibilities include supervising professional and technician staff, conducting quality‑assurance reviews, preparing and negotiating proposals, scopes, budgets and schedules, and communicating regularly with clients, junior engineers and sub‑consultants to keep projects on time and within budget. • Lead and mentor a medium‑to‑large team of engineers and technicians. • Manage client relationships and serve as primary point of contact for DOT and local agencies. • Oversee project lifecycle from feasibility studies to final design and construction. • Coordinate multi‑disciplinary efforts including survey, grading, drainage, structures and utilities. • Conduct quality‑assurance reviews and technical checks on deliverables. • Prepare, negotiate and manage proposals, scopes, budgets and schedules. • Drive business development through marketing, project pursuits and client outreach. • Ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget while maintaining safety and quality standards. • Apply highway and interchange design expertise to urban and rural transportation projects.

What You Bring
This senior project manager role requires expertise in urban and rural municipal projects, traffic management, site planning, geometric design, highway and interchange design, and coordination of surveying, grading, drainage, structures and utilities. Required qualifications are a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent), at least seven years of relevant experience, professional registration as required, strong communication, leadership, multitasking abilities, and a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture; familiarity with MoDOT and relationships with local agencies are essential. Preferred qualifications include project‑management experience with earned‑value techniques and prior work at an architecture/engineering/construction firm; HDR also offers a supportive, inclusive environment with eight employee network groups that promote belonging and professional growth. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field and a minimum of 7 years’ experience. • Possess professional licensure or certification as required for the role. • Demonstrate strong communication, leadership and multitasking abilities. • Familiarity with MoDOT processes and established relationships with Missouri city and county agencies. • Experience with earned‑value project management and prior work at an A/E/C firm is preferred.
