Small Equipment Operator

About the Role

Safety is the top priority at Nucor; candidates must be able to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. The role involves operating small equipment such as forklifts and skid steers, loading and moving scrap material, performing equipment inspections, maintaining a clean yard, communicating via radio, cross‑training, and completing other tasks assigned by the manager. • Follow company and OSHA safety procedures, attend safety meetings, and participate in the safety program • Operate small equipment of various sizes, including forklifts and skid steers • Load scrap material onto shredder feed conveyor, push shred pile, move material throughout the yard, and load trucks and railcars • Perform daily equipment inspections and report defects or needed repairs to supervisor • Keep grounds clear of debris while maintaining safety standards • Perform general labor tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, and cleaning equipment and areas throughout the yard • Communicate via radio with teammates for traffic coordination, production, and safety procedures • Cross‑train in other positions and assist other employees as needed

What You Bring

Applicants need at least one year of small‑equipment operation experience in manufacturing, the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, knowledge of equipment safety, strong communication, adaptability, reliable attendance, flexibility for overtime and outdoor work, the ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 lb, and preferably bilingual skills.
