About the Role
The role involves completing detailed high‑voltage substation (Air & GIS) design packages, covering single‑line diagrams, general arrangements, elevations, calculations, cable and bus selections, grounding, lighting, lightning protection, control building layouts, station service supply, voltage drop analysis, conduit fills, and bill of materials. Designers also produce protection and control packages with schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts, and must interface with engineers, drafters, and project managers to exceed client expectations. • Design detailed high‑voltage substation (Air & GIS) packages, including diagrams, layouts, calculations, and bill of materials. • Create protection and control design packages with schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts. • Collaborate with engineers, designers, drafters, and project managers to deliver projects that exceed client expectations. • Utilize AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D, or AutoCAD Map 3D for power delivery and renewable energy projects. • Apply strong CAD standards, layer management, annotations, and dimensioning in accordance with industry guidelines. • Communicate clearly across teams, present alternatives, and make informed recommendations.

What You Bring
RRC is seeking a talented Substation Designer to work remotely from locations in the United States or Canada. The full‑time position supports RRC’s energy projects, particularly renewable energy, across the U.S. and Canada. Candidates must hold at least a diploma or bachelor’s degree in drafting or electrical design and have three or more years of experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D, or AutoCAD Map 3D in power delivery, renewable energy, or power generation. Strong CAD skills, knowledge of industry drafting standards, and the ability to work on multi‑discipline projects are required, along with authorization to work full‑time in the U.S. or Canada. Additional strengths include 3D modeling, experience with PVcase or PVCAD, familiarity with utility‑scale wind and solar projects, battery energy storage systems, and applicable codes such as ANSI/IEEE, NESC, NEC, and CSA. Excellent time management, communication, and collaboration skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently with minimal guidance. • Manage time effectively, prioritize multiple projects, and work independently with minimal supervision. • Leverage knowledge of utility‑scale wind and solar projects, MV power systems, and relevant codes (ANSI/IEEE, NESC, NEC, CSA).
