About the Role

The Mechanical Shop Material Handler is vital to the fabrication team, supporting material flow by prepping raw pipe and sheet metal, assisting in light fabrication, and staging parts for welders and fitters, ensuring each piece is ready for the next step in the build process. The role includes wrapping, packing, and preparing finished assemblies for transport to job sites, making sure quality materials arrive ready for installation; success requires attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced shop environment. The position involves coordinating off‑loading with crafts and quality control, placing materials in proper storage, updating documentation, loading and unloading material using hand trucks or forklifts, and serving as the primary trainer for new employees. Key responsibilities include inspecting and maintaining storage yards, issuing material per field requisitions, ensuring accurate documentation, moving and loading materials, coordinating shipments, delivering to job sites when needed, directing crew tasks, and standing in for the supervisor as required. • Inspect and maintain cleanliness of storage yards and warehouses, reporting issues. • Issue and distribute material based on field requisitions and supervisor direction. • Verify documentation accuracy and review coworkers' paperwork. • Identify and confirm correct items for receipt and shipment. • Record all inventory transactions accurately. • Move materials using hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, or conveyors. • Prepare materials for outbound shipment and notify supervisor when ready. • Load and unload pallets, trays, racks, and shelves manually or with equipment. • Coordinate shipment loading and complete required paperwork. • Deliver material to job sites when needed (requires Motor Vehicle Report). • Direct crew on daily tasks and special projects. • Train new hires on all job aspects and act as supervisor backup.
