About the Role

The journeyman is responsible for building a variety of wooden structures such as stairs, concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary shelters, following blueprints or oral directions. Duties also include interpreting plans, preparing layouts, measuring, cutting, shaping, and verifying materials, as well as operating hand and power tools to install forms, bracing, sub-flooring, scaffolding, and finishing elements like windows and sheathing. • Build wooden structures (stairs, concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, temporary shelters) per blueprints or oral instructions. • Interpret blueprints and plans to determine materials and dimensions. • Select, load, and transport job materials to the work site. • Layout forms or fixtures using lines and grades. • Measure, mark, and cut boards, timbers, and plywood; shape using saws, chisels, and planes. • Verify structural accuracy with transit, plumb bob, square, and level. • Operate carpentry hand tools and power equipment (hammers, levels, squares, screwdrivers, wrenches, saws, drills, pry bars). • Nail cleats to construct concrete-supporting forms. • Brace forms with timbers, tie rods, and anchor bolts for piers, footings, and walls. • Erect framework, lay sub-flooring, and assemble timbers for trestles and cofferdams. • Install scaffolding, ladders, handrails, walkways, platforms, and gangways. • Construct and align form panels, chutes, and forms for concrete and grout pours. • Fit and install prefabricated windows, doors, weather‑stripping, trim, and hardware. • Apply sheathing to outer walls and roofs; set and brace anchor bolts. • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning tasks. • Tie rebar and operate electric/pneumatic tools. • Rig materials when required. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select appropriate tools. • Compare size, shape, and form of objects. • Visualize three-dimensional objects from plans. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria. • Follow instructions and established guidelines. • Frequently climb, balance, and reach; occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; frequently handle tools and perform fine finger work.

This long-term maintenance project does not include per-diem compensation. The Journeyman position requires at least three years of documented field experience in the relevant craft, the ability to read and interpret instructions, and the capacity to plan and perform work independently. The role involves constructing, fabricating, installing and dismantling forms and fixtures of metal, wood, and other accessories. Applicants must work within precise accuracy limits, apply shop mathematics, plan tasks, select proper tools, visualize three-dimensional objects from drawings, and make decisions based on measurable criteria, including working safely at heights. A high school diploma or equivalent together with relevant experience is typically required; the worker relies on established guidelines, operates under immediate supervision, and reports to a manager. The position demands frequent standing, walking, and occasional sitting, with the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb and push/pull up to 70 ft‑lb. Workers must frequently climb, balance, reach, handle tools, and perform fine finger motions, while occasionally stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. • High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience. • Knowledge of common concepts, practices, and procedures in the field. • Stand (60%), walk (20%), sit (20%) for extended periods. • Lift and carry up to 50 lb; push/pull up to 70 ft‑lb.
