About the Role

The role leads the embedded Linux platform strategy using Yocto or Buildroot across multiple SoC families such as NXP i.MX, TI Sitara, STM32MP1, and Renesas RZ, focusing on real‑time, ruggedized, low‑power designs. It defines kernel configuration, PREEMPT_RT, boot chain (U‑Boot, secure boot, A/B), systemd, filesystem layouts and recovery mechanisms for high‑availability products like fire panels and emergency lighting. Platform abstraction layers are established for reusable services including logging, telemetry, time synchronization (IEEE 1588 PTP), diagnostics, device management and firmware updates. The architect designs and reviews BSP and device drivers for interfaces such as I²C, SPI, UART, GPIO, CAN/CAN‑FD, USB, PCIe, Ethernet, LTE/5G, Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth, as well as DRM/KMS and HMI graphics stacks. Performance, latency, power management and file‑system health are tuned for field durability. The incumbent guides the integration of industrial protocol stacks—Profinet, Siemens S7, OPC UA, Modbus/TCP, EtherNet/IP, BACnet, EtherCAT, MQTT/CoAP, and OCPP—ensuring deterministic operation and precise time sync (PTP/NTP/TSN) for PLC and HMI workloads. EdgeX Foundry deployments are designed, covering device services, profiles, application services, message bus, secret store and interoperability with both industrial southbound and Azure northbound ecosystems. Azure IoT solutions are architected, including IoT Hub/Edge, DPS with X.509, device twins, module composition, offline buffering and large‑scale certificate provisioning. A defense‑in‑depth security strategy is defined, encompassing secure boot, TPM/HSM, mTLS, certificate lifecycle, full‑disk encryption, nftables, AppArmor/SELinux and vulnerability management aligned with IEC 62443 and relevant functional safety standards (EN 54, IEC 61508, DALI‑2/IEC 62386, EMC/CE). • Lead embedded Linux platform strategy (Yocto/Buildroot) across multiple SoCs for real‑time, low‑power, rugged designs. • Define kernel, boot chain, systemd, filesystem and recovery architecture for high‑availability products. • Build reusable abstraction layers for logging, telemetry, time sync, diagnostics, device management and OTA updates. • Architect and review BSP and drivers for diverse interfaces (I²C, SPI, UART, CAN‑FD, USB, PCIe, Ethernet, LTE/5G, Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth) and graphics stack. • Optimize performance, latency, power management and file‑system health for field durability. • Integrate industrial protocol stacks (Profinet, OPC UA, Modbus/TCP, EtherNet/IP, BACnet, EtherCAT, MQTT/CoAP, OCPP) ensuring deterministic timing. • Design EdgeX Foundry deployments and Azure IoT solutions with secure provisioning and offline buffering. • Implement defense‑in‑depth security (secure boot, TPM/HSM, mTLS, FDE, AppArmor/SELinux) aligned with IEC 62443 and safety standards. • Apply software quality practices: unit testing, static analysis, test automation, agile tools (JIRA, Bitbucket, JAMA). • Follow process frameworks (CMMI), configuration and change management, and collaborate with global suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • embedded linux
  • yocto buildroot
  • kernel architecture
  • bsp drivers
  • industrial protocols
  • security architecture

What You Bring

Candidates must hold an engineering degree (B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech) in ECE, EE or CS, with at least 18 years of embedded Linux experience and 8 years in a senior architectural or technical‑lead role. Extensive hands‑on expertise in C/C++, Linux kernel and driver development, RTOS‑based firmware, and Yocto/Bitbake is required, along with proven delivery of safety‑critical or industrial products at scale. Proficiency with industrial Ethernet and field‑bus protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, Profinet, BACnet, IEC 61850, Profibus, DeviceNet) and modern IoT stacks (OPC‑UA, MQTT, PROFINET, EtherCAT) is essential. The role also demands strong software engineering practices, including unit testing, static analysis (Coverity, Parasoft), test automation, and agile tooling such as JIRA, Bitbucket and JAMA. Experience with process frameworks (CMMI), configuration management, requirements and defect tracking, and collaboration with global hardware/software suppliers is expected. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to convey complex technical concepts, and a high degree of creativity and aptitude are critical for success. • Provide 18+ years of embedded Linux experience, 8+ years in architectural leadership, and a relevant engineering degree. • Possess deep C/C++ expertise, Linux kernel/driver development, Yocto/Bitbake and RTOS firmware skills. • Demonstrate proficiency with industrial Ethernet/field‑bus protocols and IoT standards (OPC‑UA, MQTT, EtherCAT). • Exhibit strong communication, documentation, and creative problem‑solving abilities.
