About the Role

The Senior Environmental Scientist serves as the waste team’s primary subject‑matter expert, reporting to the Waste Program Supervisor and working to enhance the waste management program across PSE facilities and projects. In a larger Environmental Services project, the Senior Environmental Scientist will lead the implementation of a waste compliance module within PSE’s environmental management system, evaluating current processes and transitioning paper‑based workflows to digital solutions. The role provides comprehensive oversight of waste‑related operations, including the Waste Management Facility in Kent, and involves developing standard operating procedures, documenting evaluations, securing permits, delivering training, and performing other administrative and regulatory duties. • Implement the waste module of the EMS software, mapping and optimizing waste management processes. • Develop standard operating procedures, document program evaluations, and secure necessary permits. • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, attend meetings, and support onsite inspections. • Create and deliver training on environmental permits and compliance plans. • Manage environmental projects and supervise consultants in support roles. • Prepare compliance reports and documentation of resource management activities. • Support budgeting and tracking for environmental compliance initiatives. • Provide administrative assistance for departmental projects and initiatives.

What You Bring

The Environmental Services team is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist. Specific work‑arrangement details will be discussed during the interview process. • BS/MS in environmental science, biology, engineering, or related field with 7+ years experience (or 4 years plus advanced degree). • Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel and Access, or equivalent data‑management software. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Experience with environmental data management systems and databases. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. • Knowledge of TSCA, RCRA, and Washington state dangerous waste regulations. • Preferred experience in waste management within Washington state and the utility sector. • Project management experience and ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives.
