About the Role

The successful candidate will work closely with Commercial and Operational leads to drive the commercial performance of the operating unit, ensuring budgeted financial goals are met and robust risk management is applied. Responsibilities include cost control, contract and change management, preparation of compensation event quotations, and submission of monthly applications to the client. You will lead and develop the commercial team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork while managing development and retention challenges. Regular reporting to the Commercial Manager and preparation of board‑level commercial reports (CVRs, forecasts, cash/WIP) will be essential. Effective stakeholder liaison is a core part of the role, building customer relationships for repeat business and collaborating with senior leadership, peers and central service teams. You will also champion health and safety, promoting a safe, collaborative environment in line with our HSE culture. • Collaborate with Commercial and Operational leads to achieve budgeted financial targets and manage risks. • Oversee cost control, contract/change management, and maintain a cash‑positive position. • Prepare and submit compensation event quotations and monthly client applications. • Lead, develop and retain the commercial team, promoting continuous improvement and teamwork. • Produce monthly commercial board reports (CVRs, forecasts, cash/WIP) and monitor project controls. • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships to secure repeat business and support change initiatives. • Champion health, safety and environmental standards, fostering a safe collaborative workplace. • Deliver excellent customer service and align with company purpose, vision and values.

What You Bring

We require a professional qualification such as MCIOB or MRICS and experience in a construction/engineering environment (highways, rail, water or aviation) on large or multiple schemes. Strong commercial awareness, knowledge of NEC3/4 contracts, and proficiency in Excel, Word, CEMAR and Oracle are essential, as is a CSCS card or willingness to obtain one. The ideal candidate is an organized, resilient self‑starter with excellent communication and influencing skills, a commitment to customer service, and a desire to uphold Galliford Try’s purpose, values and culture. • Hold MCIOB or MRICS qualification with experience in construction/engineering projects. • Demonstrate strong commercial acumen, NEC3/4 contract knowledge and proficiency in Excel, CEMAR and Oracle. • Possess CSCS card or willingness to obtain required training. • Exhibit organized, resilient, self‑starter attitude with excellent communication and influencing skills.
