About the Role
The Health and Safety Manager supports Stella‑Jones’ North American corporate safety team by delivering and overseeing programs that reduce health and safety risks while meeting regulatory requirements. This remote position is based in the Southeast or Mid‑Atlantic United States and requires up to 60 % travel to manufacturing sites. The role functions as an individual contributor with regional focus. In this role you act as the primary technical resource for OSHA compliance and safety concerns across multiple plants, develop and maintain training programs and policies, and collaborate with plant managers to implement hazard‑control measures. You will lead investigations, conduct risk assessments, represent facilities during audits, and support workers’ compensation matters, while also supervising staff and handling other assigned duties. • Serve as primary technical resource for OSHA compliance and address safety/security issues across multiple plants. • Develop and maintain health, safety, and security training programs, policies, plans, and procedures. • Create, implement, and monitor safety procedures ensuring state/local law compliance. • Work with plant managers to install controls that reduce occupational hazards. • Assist plant managers in interpreting/enforcing safety policies and recognizing safety achievements. • Conduct safety investigations, root cause analyses, and develop corrective actions. • Represent facilities during regulatory, insurance, and audit inspections. • Perform risk assessments to prevent accidents, security breaches, and environmental incidents. • Support workers’ compensation litigation by completing questionnaires and research. • Supervise exempt and non‑exempt staff, including evaluations, PTO approval, training, and hiring.

What You Bring
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Safety or a related discipline and brings at least five years of relevant experience. Preferred certifications include CSP or CIH, and a solid grasp of OSHA (and optionally EPA) regulations is required. Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills, along with proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems, are essential for success. • Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related field (preferred). • Minimum five years of safety experience or equivalent education/experience. • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred. • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations; EPA knowledge a plus. • Experience with workers’ compensation injury reporting. • Proficiency with MS Office and ERP systems. • Ability to read, interpret, and apply governmental regulations. • Excellent written and oral communication skills at all organization levels. • Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and time‑management abilities. • Ability to travel extensively (up to 60%) and work overnight trips.
