About the Role
The Reinforced Ironworker installs and secures steel reinforcement within concrete forms, positioning bars, rods, cables, and mesh according to project specifications. Tasks include fastening components, cutting them to length with various tools, bending steel rods, and fitting wire mesh or fabric to enhance structural strength. Support blocks are placed under rebar when reinforcing floors to maintain proper clearance. The position reports to a supervisor, has no direct reports, but may occasionally oversee helpers and laborers, exercising positional authority. Work is performed in diverse weather conditions and at heights, requiring adherence to Zachry’s safety protocols and the use of mandated personal protective equipment. • Position and secure steel bars, rods, cables, or mesh in concrete forms using fasteners, rod-bending machines, and hand tools. • Determine quantities, sizes, shapes, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints or sketches. • Cut rods to required lengths using metal shears, hacksaws, bar cutters, or acetylene torches. • Cut and fit wire mesh or fabric, using hooked rods, and position it in concrete. • Place blocks under rebar to hold bars off the deck when reinforcing floors. • Bend steel rods with hand tools and rod-bending machines. • Coordination – adjust actions in relation to others. • Management of Material Resources – obtain and use equipment, facilities, and materials appropriately. • Work at heights, climb ladders/stairways, and use fall protection when on platforms or scaffolding.

What You Bring
Applicants must have at least four years of journeyman reinforced ironworking experience and demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities such as active listening, coordination, critical thinking, and material resource management. Reliable transportation, personal tools, and the capacity to meet the role’s physical demands are essential prerequisites. • Space and fasten rods in forms according to blueprints, using wire and pliers. • Minimum 4 years experience as a Journeyman Reinforced Ironworker. • Must have reliable transportation. • Active Listening – follow instructions and fully understand communication. • Critical Thinking – use logic to evaluate solutions. • Preferred: Current Zachry or Zachry ROF’ed employee. • Preferred: Former experience with Zachry Industrial, Inc. • Preferred: Experience as an Industrial Reinforced Ironworker. • Physical demands: stand, walk, bend, squat, sit, and lift frequently; lift up to 50 lb. • Communicate verbally and use arms/hands for signaling and handling tools. • Work in all weather conditions while wearing required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, respirator, hi‑vis vest, leather gloves, steel‑toed boots).
