About the Role
The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for the safe operation of heavy equipment at recycling centers, landfills, or transfer stations, handling tasks such as transferring, spreading, covering, loading, and compacting waste or soil efficiently. This role supports Republic Services’ mission to provide sustainable waste management solutions. The position includes conducting thorough equipment inspections before and after use, operating a variety of machines (forklift, excavator, bulldozer, front‑end loader) in accordance with safety standards, monitoring waste for prohibited materials, and ensuring equipment readiness by cleaning tracks or wheels as needed. Operators are expected to perform minor servicing, complete equipment condition reports, notify supervisors of needed repairs, keep the shop clean, and perform additional duties as assigned while adhering to all safety policies and procedures. • Conduct pre- and post-operation equipment inspections, ensuring lights, mirrors, and cameras are clean. • Safely operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front‑end loaders following safety standards. • Monitor waste streams for unacceptable materials and continuously check equipment condition to minimize downtime. • Perform minor equipment servicing and document reports, escalating complex repairs to the maintenance shop. • Maintain a clean and organized shop area at the end of each shift. • Provide excellent customer service with professionalism, honesty, and teamwork. • Follow company policies, safety procedures, and OSHA regulations.

What You Bring
Candidates must demonstrate strong customer service, time management, follow‑through, and a commitment to company policies and safety; required experience includes at least two years operating heavy equipment and one year working at OSHA‑regulated sites. • Manage time effectively to complete tasks safely and efficiently. • Minimum: 2 years of heavy‑equipment operation experience and 1 year at OSHA‑regulated sites.
