About the Role
The engineer will act as the final technical reviewer and Engineer-of-Record for geotechnical and CMT reports, ensure defensible recommendations, supervise subsurface exploration programs, and guide the preparation of reports, foundation and pavement recommendations, earthwork grading, and construction observation documentation. They will also direct CMT operations, interpret test results against ASTM/AASHTO standards, support laboratory quality systems, collaborate with project managers on scope and risk, and contribute to business development through client relationships. • Serve as final technical reviewer and Engineer-of-Record for geotechnical and CMT reports. • Oversee subsurface exploration programs including borings, test pits, sampling, and documentation. • Review and guide deliverables such as foundation, pavement, earthwork, and construction observation reports. • Lead CMT operations, interpreting test results per ASTM/AASHTO standards. • Manage laboratory quality systems, procedures, calibrations, and corrective actions. • Collaborate with project managers to assess technical scope, assumptions, and risks. • Mentor and train engineering staff in field, lab, and reporting workflows. • Participate in client meetings to present solutions and resolve issues. • Support business development by nurturing client relationships and identifying service opportunities.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in a related engineering or geological field and possess an active P.E. or P.G. license, with at least 12 years of consulting experience in geotechnical engineering or construction materials testing. Demonstrated expertise in final report review, team leadership, staff mentorship, and direct client interaction is required; additional certifications such as ACI, NICET, or ICC and familiarity with Western Pennsylvania market conditions are preferred. • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Construction, Materials Science, Architectural Engineering, Geology, or related field. • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Professional Geologist (P.G.) license. • Minimum 12 years of consulting experience in geotechnical engineering or construction materials testing. • Proven experience as final reviewer of technical reports and calculations. • Strong leadership, staff development, and client-facing consulting skills. • Preferred: ACI, NICET, or ICC certifications. • Preferred: Experience marketing services to agencies, owners, contractors, or developers. • Preferred: Knowledge of Western Pennsylvania construction practices and regional geotechnical issues.
