About the Role
The Senior Security Engineer creates, coordinates, implements, and executes cybersecurity solutions while providing security governance and oversight in line with Xcel Energy’s IT Security & Risk Management Program. This role works closely with business partners, internal technology teams, and external vendors to detect trends, oversee projects, and ensure effective security controls. The engineer also ensures compliance with regulatory requirements such as FERC, NERC, and DHS frameworks. Key responsibilities include designing and managing security architecture for system reliability and accessibility, driving security best practices, and acting as an internal consultant to educate stakeholders on strategic security choices. The role involves researching emerging technologies, evaluating new tools, and partnering with Enterprise Architecture and third‑party service providers to integrate security functionalities. Additionally, the engineer collaborates with cross‑functional teams to align solutions with organizational objectives. • Design, implement, and manage cybersecurity solutions aligned with Xcel Energy’s security strategy. • Provide technical leadership, governance, and oversight for security architecture across projects and system changes. • Conduct security research, evaluate emerging technologies, and guide strategic direction. • Collaborate with enterprise architecture, third‑party vendors, and business units to integrate security controls. • Act as an internal consultant and educator on security best practices and regulatory compliance (FERC, NERC, DHS).

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience, and have at least eight years of IT experience, including five years in cyber security engineering. Required skills include strong communication, leadership, problem‑solving, and risk analysis abilities, as well as deep knowledge of operating systems, networks, and security infrastructures. Preferred expertise covers privileged access management, identity governance, PKI, MFA, access certification, and familiarity with AD, Azure/Entra, Kerberos, LDAP, SAML, OAuth, OIDC, and integration with platforms such as ServiceNow, Workday, Oracle, AWS, and Azure. • Bachelor’s degree in CS, engineering, business or equivalent; 8+ years IT experience, 5+ years in cyber security engineering. • Strong communication, leadership, problem‑solving, and risk analysis skills. • Deep expertise in operating systems, networks, and security tools; subject‑matter expertise in PAM, identity governance, PKI, MFA, and access certification. • Experience with AD, Azure/Entra, Kerberos, LDAP, SAML, OAuth, OIDC and integration with ServiceNow, Workday, Oracle, AWS, Azure. • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Java, Go, or Python) and ability to manage consulting resources.

The anticipated base salary for this role ranges from $112,200 to $159,400 per year, complemented by an annual incentive program and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and wellness reimbursements. Additional benefits comprise transportation and volunteer paid time off, employee assistance programs, and various flexible spending accounts.
