About the Role

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a range of machinery—including excavators up to 20 tons, dozers up to 150 horsepower, compact loaders, high‑capacity forklifts, backhoes, and articulated dump trucks—to support construction activities across heavy‑civil, industrial, and wind projects. Typical duties involve land clearing, excavation, rough grading, material handling, and underground utility work. The operator maneuvers equipment with blades to remove topsoil, vegetation and rocks, loads materials onto trucks, and excavates OSHA‑compliant trenches while coordinating movements with crew signals. • Operate excavators, dozers, loaders, forklifts, backhoes, and articulated dump trucks for construction tasks. • Perform land clearing, excavation, rough grading, and underground utility work. • Drive equipment with blades to remove topsoil, vegetation, and rocks; level terrain. • Load dirt, stone, equipment, and waste onto trucks using appropriate machinery. • Excavate trenches to meet OSHA slope requirements. • Coordinate machine movements with crew signals and maintain clear communication. • Conduct routine maintenance such as cleaning, greasing, oiling, and complete daily reports. • Travel to multiple job sites on short notice as required. • Read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and maintenance procedures. • Apply basic math for weight and volume calculations during material handling.

The position demands up‑to‑12‑hour shifts in varying weather conditions, frequent lifting of up to 50 lb, and the physical stamina to climb, stoop, kneel, and work at heights while wearing required personal protective equipment. Visual and hearing acuity, balance, and the ability to work in confined or uneven areas are essential. • Demonstrate 1‑3 years of heavy‑equipment operation experience and knowledge of safety programs. • Maintain physical stamina to work 12‑hour shifts, lift up to 50 lb, and operate at heights while wearing PPE.
