About the Role

Project, Commercial & Programme Management (PMCM) at WSP ensures successful project delivery through integrated management of scope, cost, schedule and risk. A team of more than 400 professionals supports clients from concept to completion, applying structured methodologies and digital tools to deliver resilient, efficient infrastructure. Current projects span highways, rail, urban infrastructure, energy, flood, water, wind, carbon capture, nuclear, defence and large‑scale utilities. As a Project Director / Project Management Technical Director, you will play a pivotal leadership role within a rapidly growing PMCM business, providing strategic direction and oversight across major, complex programmes while shaping and developing high‑performing project management teams. You will be accountable for building organisational capability by setting standards, developing talent pipelines and fostering a strong culture of collaboration, performance and professional excellence. Working closely with clients, senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary leaders, you will act as a trusted adviser, mentor senior project leaders, manage succession planning and contribute to the overall growth of the PMCM business. • Provide strategic direction and oversight for large, complex infrastructure programmes. • Build organisational capability by setting standards, developing talent pipelines and fostering a collaborative culture. • Act as trusted adviser to clients, strengthening relationships and identifying growth opportunities, especially for net‑zero initiatives. • Mentor and empower senior project leaders, manage succession planning and capability development. • Lead line‑management of senior project managers and emerging talent, delivering coaching, performance management and leadership development. • Manage portfolio performance, cost, margin and budgeting, including NEC3/4 ECC contract administration. • Oversee resource forecasting, workforce planning and organisational structuring to support sustainable growth.

The ideal candidate is a values‑driven leader with recognised project management qualifications (PMP, APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent) and extensive experience leading large‑scale, multidisciplinary infrastructure programmes. Proven line‑management experience, strong stakeholder and client leadership, commercial acumen and expertise in NEC3/4 ECC contracts are essential. A degree in a relevant technical discipline (civil engineering, project or construction management) and chartered status or a clear pathway to chartership are highly desirable. Commitment to sustainability, professional development and positive impact within the civil infrastructure sector is a must. • Hold recognised project management qualifications (PMP, PRINCE2, APM) and extensive multidisciplinary infrastructure experience. • Demonstrate strong commercial acumen and experience with change management and governance frameworks. • Possess a relevant engineering or construction degree and chartered status or clear pathway to chartership.
