About the Role
Operators are responsible for equipment inspections, routine maintenance, safety compliance, communication of issues, handling attachments, loading trucks, and maintaining situational awareness on site. The position requires lifting capacity, the ability to climb on/off equipment, and assistance with non‑operating duties as needed, all within a safety‑sensitive framework. • Conduct pre‑start, post‑start, and daily safety/operational inspections using checklists and report any deficiencies. • Perform minor equipment repairs and coordinate with the Supervisor and Fleet Department for damages. • Schedule and ensure regular maintenance according to equipment manuals. • Operate heavy equipment (excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, loaders) safely, respecting capacity limits and emergency procedures. • Climb on/off equipment safely and assist with non‑operating duties as required. • Load and unload materials, including placing/removing concrete barriers and loading trucks (up to 20 simultaneously). • Change attachments such as forks, booms, and hydraulic hammers, and understand equipment capacities. • Maintain grade, spread and balance material, and perform cut‑and‑fill excavation per survey stakes. • Identify and verify utility locations before excavation; coordinate ground‑man assistance when needed. • Ensure personnel remain outside the equipment’s maximum reach and secure equipment with pins before abandonment. • Shut down equipment and remove keys during washing or maintenance, adhering to safety‑sensitive protocols.

The role is a non‑FSLA exempt, skilled craft position on heavy construction projects, requiring operation of equipment such as backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, and loaders, and meeting physical fitness standards for safety‑sensitive positions. • Possess 5–9+ years experience operating excavators or bulldozers on road, highway, or bridge projects. • Hold required industry certifications and documentation evidencing competency. • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. • Ability to lift 50–80 lb frequently and up to 150 lb with assistance. • Knowledge of equipment capacities, electronic grade lasers, and utility location procedures.
