Job Highlights
About the Role
The Design Engineer – Transmission Line role supports QISG’s transmission line teams, which are essential for the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of power to communities. The teams design, build, maintain, and upgrade high‑voltage transmission infrastructure, applying both traditional methods and the latest industry innovations to provide sustainable, cost‑effective solutions. The engineer will lead all overhead transmission line design activities, including PLS‑CADD modeling, route selection, structure analysis, and sag‑tension calculations. They will create scaled drawings and maps with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and ArcGIS, apply precise engineering redlines, and perform calculations such as voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker analysis, and pole loading. Ensuring compliance with NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IBC codes and local regulations, they will conduct quality reviews, recommend corrections, and collaborate with project teams to develop modifications while maintaining detailed documentation. The position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week, with the possibility of up to 50 hours and occasional overtime. • Lead overhead transmission line design, including PLS‑CADD modeling, routing, structure analysis, sag‑tension and loading calculations. • Produce scaled drawings and maps using AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, and implement precise engineering redlines. • Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker analysis, and pole loading assessments. • Ensure designs comply with NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IBC codes and local regulations; conduct quality reviews and recommend corrections. • Collaborate with engineers and project teams to develop solutions, maintain documentation, and support calculations. • Work 40‑50 hours per week with occasional overtime.
