About the Role
The Heavy Truck Driver – Distribution supports ground operations by safely operating a range of wheeled vehicles across diverse terrains. The role involves transporting materials, personnel, and equipment between warehouses, training areas, and other facilities while ensuring cargo is protected from damage or theft. Drivers must also conduct vehicle inspections, perform minor repairs, and adhere to safety and convoy procedures. Daily duties include loading and unloading vehicles, securing cargo, operating material handling equipment, and performing vehicle self‑recovery or towing as needed. Drivers communicate via radios, dispatch vehicles, verify logbooks, and compile operational data such as time, mileage, and load information for reporting. They also support mechanics by reporting deficiencies and maintaining certifications. • Operate wheeled and specialized vehicles (HEMTT, HET, PLS) over varied terrain. • Transport and secure materials, equipment, and personnel between sites. • Load, unload, and tie down cargo to prevent shifting. • Perform minor mechanical repairs and routine vehicle maintenance. • Operate material handling equipment (MHE) and conduct self‑recovery/towing. • Communicate via radios, dispatch vehicles, and verify logbooks for convoys. • Report vehicle deficiencies and assist mechanics; compile time, mileage, and load data. • Maintain CDL, Ammo Awareness, and Hazardous Materials Transport certifications. • Work flexible shifts, travel to Fort Hood and training sites, and operate in extreme weather. • Perform prolonged physical tasks such as sitting, standing, squatting, and walking.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a high school diploma, a valid Commercial Driver’s License with the appropriate classification, and at least three years of experience operating military or commercial wheeled vehicles. Required certifications include Ammo Awareness and Hazardous Materials Transport, and the ability to operate material handling equipment is essential. Preferred candidates are physically capable of extended sitting, standing, squatting, and walking, and can work in extreme weather and noisy environments. Prior military experience in transportation or logistics (e.g., MOS 88M), familiarity with specialized vehicles such as HEMTT, HET, and PLS, and knowledge of Army motor‑pool operations and convoy safety are valued.
