About the Role

The Level 2 Sorter reports to an Operations Supervisor or Manager and supports recycling‑center operations through inventory control, quality control, and safety compliance. Key duties include sorting and segregating recoverable materials such as aluminum, plastic, glass and paper, depositing them safely into the proper chutes, and assisting fellow sorters with heavy or bulky items. The sorter also communicates with equipment operators about special loads, trains teammates to reduce downtime, and ensures safety rules are followed, including emergency belt stops. Additional responsibilities involve inspecting and removing line jams, performing daily cleaning of automated sorting equipment, maintaining facility cleanliness throughout the shift, and aiding maintenance technicians during system repairs. The sorter must accurately distinguish between different types of recyclables, such as various plastics (PETE, HDPE), glass colors, aluminum grades, and paper grades, and perform any other assigned tasks.
