About the Role
The position primarily supports the management of specification projects, resolving technical and administrative issues while providing guidance to architectural design firms on product selection. Responsibilities include reviewing drawings, writing and editing specifications to meet project requirements, institutional guidelines, firm standards, and applicable codes, as well as planning and preparing construction specifications for each project milestone. The role also prepares procurement and contracting requirements, coordinates consultant technical specifications, conducts product research, assists designers with material selections, and collaborates with internal architects and other disciplines such as structural and landscape engineering. Maintaining awareness of evolving building technology, assisting construction administration with submittal reviews, managing multiple projects, and leading client discussions are also key duties. • Guide design teams on product selection and prepare/edit construction specifications. • Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and institutional guidelines throughout project phases. • Resolve technical and administrative issues for specification projects. • Review drawings and project information to produce accurate specifications. • Coordinate and review consultant technical specifications for conformity with firm standards. • Conduct product research and assist designers with material selections. • Collaborate with internal architects, structural engineers, and landscape architects on specification manuals. • Stay current on building technology, code changes, and industry trends. • Support construction administration by reviewing submittals and evaluating substitution requests. • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. • Lead client project discussions and follow up on reports.

What You Bring
ECS is seeking an experienced Specification Writer II to join our Pacific Facilities team in Irvine, CA. In this role you will guide design teams on product selection, prepare and edit construction specifications, ensure compliance with codes and standards, and coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants throughout all project phases. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented with a solid background in architecture or construction, strong technical expertise in specifications writing, and a passion for staying current on building technologies and industry trends. Candidates must have at least a high school diploma or GED, with a bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Building Science, or a related field preferred. Six years of architectural or commercial interiors experience and a minimum of three years of advanced responsibility in writing, editing, and developing AIA MasterFormat specifications are required. Membership in the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) is mandatory, and certifications such as CDT, CCS, LEED AP, or licensure as an architect or engineer are considered a plus. A valid driver’s license is required for any driving duties, and strong skills in product research, design aptitude, reading construction drawings, and proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu & Studio, and Adobe Acrobat are essential; AutoCAD and Revit proficiency is advantageous. • Minimum 6 years architectural/commercial interiors experience; at least 3 years writing AIA MasterFormat specifications. • CSI membership required; CDT, CCS, LEED AP, or licensure preferred. • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu & Studio, Adobe Acrobat; AutoCAD/Revit a plus.

Benefits
The expected salary range for this role in Irvine is $73,000 – $97,500 per year, with final compensation based on location and individual qualifications.
