About the Role

The role supports WM’s Sustainability Services onsite program, performing manual labor associated with chemical handling, lab pack duties, drum movements, drum bulking, drum crushing, and other assigned tasks. It is a support position focused on hazardous and non‑hazardous waste projects and works from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Primary responsibilities include ensuring waste types are properly segregated, meeting regulatory shipment windows, maintaining accurate labeling, housekeeping, and tracking logs. The technician identifies best practices that help customers reduce waste volumes, increase operational efficiency, optimize equipment usage, and generate cost savings. Daily duties involve safely segregating, labeling, marking, and packaging waste; collecting, pouring, transferring, consolidating, and repackaging solid, liquid, and sludge materials; and performing labor‑intensive activities such as drum collection, bulking, trash sorting for recyclables, and loading trucks. The employee also transfers waste into various container sizes and provides labor support at the 90‑Day Hazardous Waste Pad when required. • Ensure waste is properly segregated, labeled, and logged to meet regulatory shipment windows. • Identify and implement best practices to reduce waste volume, improve efficiency, and achieve cost savings for customers. • Safely segregate, label, mark, and package hazardous and non‑hazardous waste materials. • Collect, pour, transfer, consolidate, and repackage solid, liquid, and sludge waste. • Perform labor‑intensive tasks such as drum collection, bulking, trash sorting for recyclables, and truck loading. • Transfer waste into containers of varying sizes and provide support at the 90‑Day Hazardous Waste Pad. • Guide less‑experienced technicians when needed and always wear required PPE. • Participate in safety programs, attend training, and immediately report unsafe conditions or incidents. • Follow ISO 14001/9001 environmental and quality management procedures and comply with EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations.

The position requires wearing required personal protective equipment, participating in safety processes, completing required training, and immediately reporting any unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries, or property damage. Compliance with the Environmental and Quality Management System (ISO 14001/9001) and applicable EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations is mandatory. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (accredited) with no prior experience required. Preferred credentials are RCRA and DOT regulatory compliance experience, lab‑packing experience, a 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days), and a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain a medical card and CDL within six months. Candidates must pass a respirator fit test. The work environment demands motor coordination, finger dexterity, and the ability to handle objects up to 50 lb for most of the day. Employees are regularly exposed to physical risks such as cuts, burns, chemicals, as well as dirt, odors, noise, and extreme weather conditions.
