Design and manage high‑voltage transmission line projects, ensuring safe, cost‑effective delivery.
Job Highlights
About the Role
United Grid Solutions seeks a senior transmission engineer to lead design, engineering, technical support, and oversight for transmission line projects, including renewable energy interconnections and grid modernization. The role involves delivering safe, cost-effective, and high-quality engineering services, providing technical direction on complex problems, and managing project schedules and budgets. The incumbent will also contribute to proposal development and cost estimating. The position operates with minimal supervision in power transmission and substations, requiring major decision-making where established procedures are unavailable. It influences moderate-level decisions and requires tactful interaction with stakeholders. Although there are no direct reports, the engineer will oversee the project team during design drawing preparation. The job involves predominantly seated work with occasional standing, walking, and handling of tools, and may require lifting up to 25 pounds. Work conditions include occasional exposure to outdoor weather, moderate noise, and the possibility of electrical shock. United Grid Solutions is an equal-opportunity, non-union employer that values innovative infrastructure solutions and offers growth opportunities while tackling complex challenges. • Provide engineering/technical expertise to identify, analyze, and resolve problems. • Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities effectively. • Produce thorough, timely, and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches. • Continuously improve engineering, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance. • Understand and create transmission line drawing packages. • Support company goals and represent the company positively and professionally. • Interact daily with customers' internal engineers and technical personnel. • Develop and maintain professional relationships with customers. • Monitor deliverables and schedules and present solutions to clients. • Verify right-of-way requirements, conductor sags/tensions, and review transmission line plans and construction documents. • Prepare detailed bills of material for transmission line construction. • Deliver complete design packages on time, within budget, and with high quality. • Perform PLSCADD line design, PLSPOLE structure design, and PLS tower structure design. • Oversee and mentor junior staff, designers, and drafters. • Collaborate effectively with other design disciplines, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and clients. • Visit sites to advise on transmission line issues and modify designs during construction. • Provide project management to coordinate staff, assign tasks, and meet schedules. • Assist Project Manager with proposal and contract preparation and review. • Support design needs for permitting activities.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program and possess a Professional Engineering (PE) license. Required experience includes 8-10 years as an electrical engineer focused on power delivery, with a strong background in transmission line design. The role demands strong oral and written communication, the ability to read and interpret technical documents, and proficiency in mathematical concepts such as ratios, percentages, and spreadsheet analysis. Critical reasoning skills are needed to interpret technical instructions and solve problems in low-standardization environments. Additional abilities include independent work, cultural sensitivity, and a solid understanding of electrical engineering concepts as they relate to civil-structural designs. Preferred qualifications include a BS in Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering, NCEES-recorded PE registration, and extensive knowledge of standards such as NESC, ASCE, IEC, and IEEE. Proficiency in PLSCADD, PLSPOLE, and PLS tower design, as well as MS Office and cost estimating tools, is desired. • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills. • Hold a Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering. • Be a Registered Professional Engineer with an NCEES record. • Possess 8+ years of electrical utility transmission line design experience with high-voltage lines (69kV+). • Demonstrate technical competency in all aspects of transmission line utility design, including structure layout and line component functions. • Apply knowledge of NESC, ASCE, ACI, IEC, CSA, ANSI, IBC, AISC, and IEEE standards. • Proficient with MS Office applications and total installed cost estimating. • Experience working in field or construction environments implementing or verifying engineering drawings.
