About the Role

The Landfill Gas Technician reports to the Gas Operations Manager and is accountable for operating and maintaining the landfill gas collection and control system (GCCS). The GCCS includes extraction wells, piping, and gas conveyance equipment that transports landfill gas to a flare for combustion. Proper operation ensures compliance with state and federal environmental regulations. • Operate and maintain GCCS to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal performance. • Calibrate, operate, and maintain electronic data collection devices for LFG optimization. • Collect, enter, and manage data from wellfield extraction and environmental monitoring. • Implement preventative maintenance plan for GCCS equipment. • Operate and maintain liquid management system pumps, troubleshooting liquid levels. • Perform wellfield valve and vacuum adjustments, data collection, and maintenance. • Maintain PVC or HDPE piping and associated equipment. • Follow health and safety procedures and be available for on‑call GCCS malfunction response.

What You Bring

The role requires work both inside the gas plant and outdoors, often in inclement weather, heat, or humidity. Employees must be able to perform physical tasks such as handling pumps, valves, and piping, and may be on call for system malfunctions. The position may require travel by air or access to federal property; therefore candidates must possess a REAL ID or an approved alternative, or be willing to obtain one. • Complete WM Landfill Gas Technician I training. • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license (required). • Experience in environmental fieldwork, construction, electrical, mechanical, or similar hands‑on roles (preferred). • Knowledge of gas collection systems, pumps, blowers, or flare systems. • Technical or trade school training in environmental science, mechanical systems, instrumentation, or related field. • Experience with PVC or HDPE piping and components. • Proficiency using data‑logging systems. • Mechanical aptitude and experience troubleshooting pumps, motors, or pneumatic equipment. • Basic computer data entry and interpretation skills. • Ability to work independently in field environments with minimal supervision.
