About the Role

• Prepare comprehensive technical specifications, design drawings, and reports that document the transmission line design process, calculations, assumptions, and recommendations. • Ensure that all transmission line designs adhere to industry codes, standards, and regulations, including NESC, IEEE, IEC, and regional grid codes. • Develop and review design deliverables (e.g., plan and profile drawings, structure loading tables, bills of material, etc.) for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards. • Work with engineers, designers, drafters, and support staff to translate technical requirements into construction-ready drawings and documentation. • Stay up to date with the latest developments in transmission line design, structural engineering, and renewable energy technologies. • Stay current with evolving industry standards and best practices, implementing innovations that enhance project delivery, safety, and reliability. • Conduct scoping, budgeting, scheduling, planning, executing, monitoring, and reporting of transmission line projects and proposals to ensure reliable, cost-effective solutions. • Provide technical support during the construction phase, including responding to queries, reviewing contractor submissions, and conducting site visits as needed. • Perform structural analysis and simulations to ensure the stability and resilience of transmission line structures, including lattice towers, monopoles, and foundations. • Create conceptual and complete IFC designs across high-voltage transmission line disciplines such as tower configurations, conductor selection, insulation, and line hardware. • Perform engineering studies and calculations (short-circuit analysis, load flow, relay settings, grounding, harmonics, etc.) to ensure reliable, efficient substation operations. • Review vendor drawings, specs, and proposals, ensuring proper equipment and materials (poles, towers, conductors, insulators, etc.) are selected. • Carry Weight: infrequently carry weight and/or lift objects (light to heavy) weighing up to 10 pounds • Evaluate the impact of wind, ice, seismic events, and other external factors on the performance of transmission line systems.

What You Bring

• Minimum of 4 to 6 years of professional engineering experience in the power industry, specific to transmission line projects. • Hearing and Speech: frequently communicates with the ability to hear and talk on a regular basis with employees, coworkers, and all personnel matters; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations • Strong knowledge of transmission engineering principles, with expertise in applicable codes, standards, and design tools (e.g., PLS-CADD). • Noise level ranges from low to moderate (if in office setting) • Preferred: Professional Engineering (PE) license. • Sight: frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, and office objects near and far • A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (or an acceptable combination of education and experience). • Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills • Travel: up to 30 as needed • Ability to coordinate multiple technical disciplines, design teams, schedules, and budgets. • Regular attendance, in accordance with company's attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position • Stationary Position: frequently remains stationary up to 90% of the time and sitting up to 8 hours in a day • Assertive, able to cope with pressure, a team player • Noise level ranges from moderate to high (if on construction worksite)
