About the Role

Key responsibilities include guiding risk management, reviewing and negotiating contracts and subcontracts for architecture, engineering, construction, and environmental services, and handling teaming, joint‑venture, confidentiality, licensing, and insurance agreements. The attorney will advise AEC teams on alternative delivery projects like design‑build, progressive design‑build, P3 and EPC, and will support procurement and delivery of heavy civil, transit, water, aviation, energy, and social infrastructure. Additional duties cover pre‑litigation dispute resolution, managing litigation and external counsel, overseeing budgets, handling subpoenas, preparing public disclosures, conducting legal research, drafting memoranda, and providing compliance guidance to staff across multiple West Region offices. • Provide risk management guidance and ensure adherence to company policies. • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, subcontracts, and related legal documents for architecture, engineering, construction, and environmental services. • Negotiate and draft agreements for alternative delivery projects such as design‑build, progressive design‑build, P3, and EPC. • Advise AEC teams during procurement and delivery of heavy civil, transit, water, aviation, energy, and social infrastructure projects. • Act as legal advisor on business decisions and resolve pre‑litigation disputes and potential claims. • Supervise and manage litigation, including professional liability, breach of contract, and personal injury matters, coordinating outside counsel. • Manage external counsel relationships and litigation budgets. • Handle subpoenas, document requests, and related litigation activities with limited support. • Prepare disclosures to public agencies and support corporate secretary functions. • Research legislation, case law, and emerging policies to address contract and regulatory issues. • Draft legal memoranda and briefs on organizational risks. • Guide staff on compliance with federal and provincial laws and regulations. • Support multiple offices across the West Region as needed.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a JD from an accredited law school, be a member in good standing of a U.S. state bar, and possess at least five years of relevant experience (seven years for senior counsel). Experience should include drafting and negotiating professional services and construction agreements for a major engineering, construction, or consulting firm, as well as the ability to present to senior management and work independently. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and willingness to travel up to 10 % are also required; preferred qualifications include prior experience at an engineering or architecture company and strong communication skills. • Hold a JD from an accredited law school and be admitted to a U.S. state bar. • Minimum five years (counsel) or seven years (senior counsel) of relevant construction and engineering law experience. • Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating professional services and construction agreements. • Experience with major engineering firms, contractors, consultants, or law firms in engineering and construction law. • Ability to present legal matters to senior management and work independently. • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. • Willingness to travel up to 10 % periodically. • Preferred: prior experience at an engineering, architecture, or construction company and strong communication skills.
