About the Role

Reporting to the Supervisor of Operational Technology Support, the Energy Management System (EMS) Engineer leads the Operations section in monitoring, assessing, and analyzing SCADA system modeling, maintains the EMS and its interfaces to power system operational technology, and develops applications and displays used by Transmission and Distribution Operations. • Update and support operational alarm limits (MVA & Voltage). • Build or modify SCADA displays to reflect electrical system changes. • Update and maintain the real‑time power system model. • Maintain the quality of EMS Advanced Applications. • Provide support for SOC Operators to review and validate real‑time applications. • Collaborate with SCADA vendor on system architecture and assist with periodic upgrades. • Investigate, troubleshoot, and fix modeling errors when State Estimator quality falls below threshold. • Maintain the Operator Training Simulator, including network model imports, DOTS database updates, upgrade testing, and trainer support. • Prepare, review, and edit technical documentation. • Participate in EMS modeling and data migration activities. • Compile and review operational and business requirements to develop project specifications. • Conduct system analysis, manual calculations, and prepare study reports. • Perform application and systems testing. • Complete assigned projects while managing schedule and quality. • Provide technical guidance and subject‑matter expertise for EMS‑related issues. • Review Transmission and Distribution IFR and IFC Points Lists. • Build or modify Transmission SCADA displays as required. • Support Transmission Engineers on new initiatives and project work. • Develop training and development plans for staff, including succession planning. • Recognize and encourage group members. • Offer technical support and mentorship to EMS team members.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. • Professional Engineering designation through A.P.E.G.A. • 5–10 years of experience in the electrical utility industry or control‑room real‑time operations (preferred). • Working knowledge of electrical transmission, distribution systems, and database maintenance. • Strong knowledge of SCADA/ADMS/EMS systems (OSI preferred). • Experience with CYME, ASPEN, Hexagon GIS, and OMS programs. • Proficiency in Python and C programming languages. • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities. • Team player able to prioritize assignments and meet commitments. • Capability to work on projects with minimal supervision. • Ability to authenticate own work and perform quality assurance on others’ work.
